I have not been inspired to do any writing the last couple of months, due to being locked down. Ireland has been in level five restrictions since December 31, 52 days as of today, 21, February 2021. Prior to December 31st Ireland was in level five lockdown from October 21st until December 18th. So, this is just me trying to get out of a rut, so here are some interesting reads I have read in the last few days.
I thought this was an interesting read: Air Jordan III: The Shocking Story of the Greatest Shoe Jordan Never Wanted. Michael Jordan was about to ditch Nike — until an inexperienced designer created the shoe he’d always dreamed of.
The heading and subheading pretty much sums up the story. Its gotta be the shoes, right? This article is an interesting retelling of the Jordan and the brand he has become known for. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but the Jordan brand really incorporated Jordan’s identity into a shoe and beyond.
I came across this article The Real Reasons All the Top Chess Players Are Men when the Queen’s Gambit has taken over the internet for a brief period; something I did not watch myself. I thought this article was interesting as I had been reading a lot of texts on the disadvantage’s women faced and still face in general.
A long read that came out today: Mark Changed The Rules”: How Facebook Went Easy On Alex Jones And Other Right-Wing Figures. I think Facebook is in shits creek these days, with what is happening in Australia with news platforms. Facebook caters to an older audience now, and I think to retain that audience it reflects that groups political identity.
Tampon wars: the battle to overthrow the Tampax empire was an article that caught my eye because I did a college project on period poverty and normalising the conversation around periods.
And finally: How Sex Workers Try to Make Podcasts Work For Them a very interesting read and a podcast recommendation to boot. Enjoy!
